I’m so glad it’s Friday! I’ve had a hard time getting my internet groove back this week but after writing my lecture for Monday’s keynote, I definitely can’t wait to go to Cologne to present and meet everyone – I’m ready! Bring it! We will have a great round-up of companies and international bloggers in attendance. I certainly hope that if you’re attending imm, that you’ll stop by and join us for #wearesocial (more details here). It is free to enter our social media love den, so don’t worry, we won’t be charging you to hang out with us. It would be lovely to welcome you!
How has your week been? Lots of my friends had difficulties getting back into the swing of things, are you in that group too? And how are your new year’s resolutions going? I’ve been so involved in other things that I totally forgot to write a list! My primary goal at the moment is to get through Monday and then I can really focus on the rest of the year because I’m a tad bit nervous (okay a lot!) especially since I’m speaking before such a diverse audience. Perhaps I should spend Monday morning at a good cocktail bar. That would make for a more entertaining discourse, I’m certain. ;)
On Monday, you can follow the lecture and panel online over at Twitter by following #wearesocial – and if you have questions for the panel on Monday, I’ll check Twitter as we go and if I see yours and if it’s relevant, I’ll ask our panel and credit you, of course! Our event is from 2-4 pm GMT +1 – not sure how many of my American friends will be up and tweeting then but I’d love to here from those in other parts of the world who are! Until then, be well!
And… If you are looking for decorating inspiration this weekend, be sure to refer to the beautiful Est magazine. This photos above is from issue no. 4 and it’s a stunner. Love Est!
We are social! Yes we are! Tweet me, like me, rah, rah, rah! Okay, social media cheerleading aside, I want to invite you to imm cologne, where more than 1,250 exhibitors from more than 50 countries come face to face with over 140k visitors from all over the world to present 100k+ pieces of furniture and other decorating items — and a big bonus for visitors is that about one third of these exhibitors are totally new. But that’s not all…
The most exciting part for me is that I’ll be there to speak on Monday, January 14th from 2-4 on, “Blogging Your Way To Success – 8 tips on how others can find success through blogging and social media” and lead a panel composed of 6 social media and blogging experts for, We Are Social, where we will explore the benefits of social media along with plenty of ideas for all who want to use social media platforms and their blogs in ways that can yield rich results.
Dr. Frank Huber from First Media organized this event for imm and asked me to select 3 bloggers that I thought would be a great fit to the panel that he had already begun to pull together when he approached me last year. Dr. Huber selected Costas Voyatzis from Yatzer, Ferdinando Napoli from Archiportale and Micle Mihai-Cristian from Freshome because those are sites that he reads and admires and whom he regards as social media experts and success stories.
When it was my turn to choose my three panel experts, I wanted to go with a diverse group with different backgrounds so I selected Will Taylor from Bright Bazaar, Frederik Frede from Freunde von Freunden and Stefanie from the OhhMhh blog. Each of our panelists will give a 10 minute presentation so you will get to learn more about them and what they do along with their inspirational story and background. After that, we will break for some mingling and then everyone will be invited to take their seats as we’ll then begin the panel — I’ll ask questions so that everyone in attendance can learn from these inspirational people. My goal as the moderator will be to keep it REAL and RELATABLE. I want everyone in attendance, no matter how big or small your blog is, to walk away with plenty of ideas and creative fuel and most importantly, to feel inspired by all of us and our stories. Because really, our stories are your stories. We are a community. We are social!
If you cannot attend, please follow us on January 14th on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest by following us at #wearesocial
Location: imm Cologne
Congress-Centrum Ost 4. OG, Congress-Saal Sektion 3, Koelnmesse
Following the event, I’ll be at the Koelnmesse Passage Hall 3/ Hall 11 signing books at 4:45 (both English and German copies will be available for sale).
For more information, please check out the imm website – this event is completely free of charge so please come, bring a friend, and enjoy a few hours of learning, mingling and fun because we plan to make this an event that is not only worth your time but that can be enjoyed by all.
See you soon!

I must thank all 20 of these wonderful ladies, my blog peers, for their support in advance and I cannot wait to read and pin all of your reviews to my Decorate Workshop Pinterest board. I am very excited to see what each of you have to say and how you present the book – it’s such an honor for me so thank you again. I’ll be tuning in from Monday while I’m in London to see Jan’s review on Poppytalk – so excited!
The next big news is that I’ll be going on a REAL LIVE book tour next year in May 2013, Chronicle Books is bringing me on a North American book tour and I can’t wait to tell you who we’re working with and what fun events we have in store for you! We haven’t finalized dates or cities yet, but if you have suggestions PLEASE let me know where you’d like to see me because I’m open to suggestions and I want to see as many of you as I possibly can. I’ll be on the road for 2-3 weeks so I can hit 8-10 cities at least.
In 2011 I went to 20 cities in the US and Europe and honestly, I never imagined I’d be invited to do it a second time around so I’m going to make this tour the best that I can for all of us – especially my guests – so we can have really great events that are inspiring, productive and educational – not just about me signing books because I love to teach and the idea of doing live workshops at no cost to you makes me so, so happy – so workshops will be part of the book signing parties for sure. After this tour I honestly want to make babies, buy a home and stick around locally for a few years so this may be it when it comes to touring around for awhile so I hope to meet as many of you as possible! :)
Details to follow! But first, it’s bloggy book tour time starting on Monday – please follow along by visiting the blogs highlighted above.
Speaking of books, tomorrow (November 23), I will be in LONDON at the book department at Selfridges on Oxford Street from 3:00-3:30 doing a really informal signing – no seats, no presentations, no frills – just me standing around signing a bunch of books for their inventory. If you’re in the ‘hood and want to swing by to buy a book and would like it personalized then that’s a great time to do it. You cannot bring in any books with you but if you buy it tomorrow at Selfridges I will definitely sign it for you. Here’s a coupon you can use for 20% OFF, too!
Now back to the regularly scheduled program – blogging about something other than my book, ha ha!!!!
Hello everyone and happy Friday to you! I’m so pleased to share some photos from my book launch party for the UK edition of Decorate Workshop, photographed by London-based photographer Lucy Lu. Most of these photos (unless noted otherwise) are from Lucy, thank you Lucy! The lovely party at Anthropologie on Regents Street was a huge success – it was packed with more people than we had expected, which is never a problem and always an honor BUT it was tough to fit so many comfortably so needless to say we had standing room only by the time we began our lectures. Decorate Workshop fans filled the 3rd floor and we had a great night. Want to see for yourself?
I was joined by one of the UK’s top bloggers, Will Taylor, from Bright Bazaar and American stylist James Leland Day, who lives in Berlin (his home is in Decorate Workshop and his living room shown above) who spoke alongside of me about the book from what inspired it to how one goes from blogger to author, the process of writing an interiors book and how to style your home with tips from James and later, I chimed in with tips on how to pull inspiration from the many images you see and translate them into something that works. I have to thank both of these fab guys for being there and presenting so well – Will is a natural and James has such a strong background in styling – they both were such a nice addition to the party and guests really loved having them, too.
Will showing everyone the inside of the French fold book jacket – all editions have a special jacket that you can unfold, iron and display on your wall. Mine is above my desk in my work studio.
I really love bringing together special guests in all of the events that I do – last year for Decorate some of my special speakers included Abigail Ahern, Leslie Shewring, Sania Pell, Betsy Burnham, Nicole Balch, Fernanda Bourlot, Zia Priven, Matt Stinchcomb (co-founder of Etsy) and many others. In fact, whenever I host events I always try to add a few guests to accompany me because I enjoy the support and friendship – it makes doing events a lot more exciting and a lot less about “me” and more about “we”.
Will interviewing me during the launch party – I was trying to focus, I was a bit nervous because we had problems with the sound system – we were able to fix it later on but it kept throwing me off track at first. We did our best – thanks to everyone who endured the first 10 minutes!!!
I love this photo – it looks like this cute lady is embracing my book. It actually made me feel emotional seeing this. The idea of giving a little slice of happy to someone is quite a nice feeling for an author to have.
Will is such a charming and caring soul but also has an excellent business brain behind all those bow ties and polka dots. James was really getting into how he designed his living room – shown on the board to his right. That is an image from my book as well.
A closer shot of the board showing James’ living room as seen in Decorate Workshop.
Between all of the beautiful cakes that Anthropologie laid out for us to feast on, the prosecco, the inspiring space and the entire 3rd floor being filled with design lovers and bloggers, it was quite a lovely experience. Anthro even gave everyone who bought my book a 15% coupon for their next purchase and a linen Anthro tote. What a nice touch! Along one wall, I had a bookcase in my honor titled, Holly Becker’s Favourite Things” where I had shopped the day before for things that I loved from their home & fashion accessories floors so that my guests could check out a few of my favorite things. Problem was, the event was so packed that it was hard for people to go examine all of the pretty things there!
I had a rough summer, filled with a lot of ups and downs in my life (mostly downs) so to be here with all of my fans and have them so excited to see me and celebrate my new book was nothing less than a fantastic boost for me personally – and of course, it was cool to sign and hold up my book for the camera – I loved celebrating this accomplishment with all who came out.
I love this shot of me talking to Ari from Arianna Interiors who is also co-founder of Heart Home magazine. Ari is one of those people who is genuinely so sweet and charismatic, there is nothing fake about her. I think she was admiring my hair or necklace in this photo – she always has a way of making you feel at ease and taking you beneath her wing. I really adore this lady!
This photo of James made me smile. He really loved being a part of the festivities and he walked away feeling inspired by everyone, too. The energy was so positive. It was a truly lovely event.
I only wish that I could have spoken to everyone – I know I missed out on meeting so many of you and for that, I’m sorry! It was my intention to meet everyone but the event was too full and once the book signing begun I was there until after the store closed dedicating books to some genuinely lovely guests.
I felt honored and inspired by the event and to think the day before, I ran into a street concert with Robbie Williams performing right before my eyes and the same evening after the book party, I ended up in a private bar at a hotel where a friend Charlotte was staying and who walks in and says hello to us, American rapper/actor Ludacris. Yeah, really. He was so chill and his friends and I chatted about the south (where we are all from) and later, my book and blog! Riot! It was funny to see him and how normal they all were but the best part was when one of them googled me and said, “Hey you’re famous too!”, that was a riot! Here’s a photo of me with Ludacris who is currently in London filming Fast & Furious 6 – funny right?!
So that was my book launch party. I hope that you liked it. If I missed any of the photographers who took the photos above, PLEASE let me know so I can link you below. A big thank you to Jacqui Small Publishing (Jacqui, Joanna, Sian, Sarah, Anabel, Jessica and Sam), Anthropologie EU, Lucy Lu, Will Taylor, James Leland Day, Debi Treloar and some of the homeowners who attended in addition to James like Sania Pell, Emma Cassi, Stephanie Rammeloo and Yvonne Eijkenduijn.
Yeah yeah, I know, this is a silly post, but a fun one… and I do hope that you’ll join in and be a part of the first annual STRIPE MANIA blogger round-up! Okay so I was chatting over at Facebook with my friend Igor in Munich who changed his photo recently to one showing him all dolled up in a striped shirt and we got to talking about stripes and he had this brilliant idea to host a stripey twitter day and then it evolved and now we’ve come up with a virtual #Stripe Mania party. So, would YOU like to join us?’
Here’s what you need to do to play along:
1. Take a self portrait (or have someone take your photo) when you are a wearing a shirt or dress with stripes — and accessorize if you’d like – have fun, be unique, show your personality and get creative. The photo needs to show your face and at least part or all of your shirt or dress so we can see what you are actually wearing. It also needs to be current, so nothing older than a month — try to take the photo especially for Stripe Mania. :)
2. Upload the picture to your blog, website, twitpic, flickr, etc.
4. Once I see your photo, I’ll pin it to this Pinterest board with your blog name and link.
Tweet your pic anytime between now and June 12th. On Monday, June 13th I’ll post the photos on decor8 with a big shout out to all who participated. No prizes, nothing to compete for… just to have fun and see how many bloggers actually do wear stripes! And okay, it would be fun to see all of my favorite bloggers out there so this is a bit of a virtual meet and greet, too. Much love to you guys and remember, stripes rule, stripe mania, wear stripes! :)
