Daytrip Society {Maine}

What do two former Def Jam records employees, Jessica Jenkins and Andy West, do after living in hectic New York City? Relocate to Kennebunkport, Maine to open a design shop called Daytrip Society of course. Duh! (grin.) This is seriously such a cool story especially because they are originally from Maine and it’s a story of returning to ones roots. Jessica and Andy want their store to be the go-to destination for design lovers who are also inspired by nature and travel. They carry everything from home accessories to organic products and handcrafted treasures.

This is an inspiring example of those who completely change direction and dive into something new — it takes a lot of courage but I believe that those who are risk takers and who believe in their vision will survive this economy. I also see the need for people to get back in touch with their home turf, support their local communities or return home to where they have established roots and build something special within that community. I’m all for that. We all have the ability to shape shift from what we are today to what we want to become tomorrow, but lots of times fear holds us back — not actual ability.

Yay to Jessica and Andy for not only opening a great shop but for taking the leap and being such an inspiration to other small business owners out there.

Roddy & Ginger

Hey check this out! I found a fresh and fun retro designer in London called Roddy & Ginger today after Margarita from Chocolate Creative left a comment on my blog. I clicked over and there was Roddy & Ginger — immediately I adored their designs and had to feature them.

Roddy & Ginger designs homewares, bags and limited-edition pieces using vintage fabrics and a selection of one off vintage finds. They even sell vintage finds from the flea market. So sweet.

Pillow Mint

I love this shop! It’s called Pillow Mint and it is located in Charlottesville, Virginia. Owner Anita has both a storefront and web shop and she commented earlier here on the bloggy blog that she’s sad to see Domino fold and get this… she was going to be featured in their April issue! With March being the last that isn’t going to happen. Poor Anita. I feel so bad. To ease some of the pain, I clicked over to her shop and found these beauties to share. Let’s give her a little cyber group hug today, shall we? I know decor8 is not Domino, but hey it’s a start since we bloggers tend to share our finds so perhaps she’ll get a little blog lovin’ all over the intertubes today!

Pillows, Hadley Hutton prints and a cozy koko: acrylic throw.

I don’t know if you follow the Making It Lovely blog, but mother-to-be Nicole is decorating her nursery and since she is a graphic designer I think she’d love these serena & lily letter pillows. I immediately thought of her the moment I saw them!
