Skinny laMinx: New

I love all of the new stuff I’m seeing lately… brilliant summer collections, glimpses of upcoming autumn lines, a few new products (like this great collaboration that I wrote about earlier between Heath Ceramics and Dwell)… it’s all so exciting! In many ways, it’s what I live for — if I didn’t constantly have gorgeous new products to see and write about, life would be so dull for me because art and design is such a big part of who I am — who you are — who WE are, don’t you think?

Skinny Laminx

I can’t imagine not having new seasons and collections to look forward to. It’s not about being insatiable or even materialistic because I certainly do not purchase every new thing that I see. It’s more about seeing people all around the world dreaming, thinking, applying their skills, creating something special… this gives me such energy! You too?

Skinny Laminx

Take Heather Moore from Skinny laMinx for example… she’s rad. Always thinking, always doing, consistently impressing her fans and finding newbies to convert. I’ve been watching her grow from the beginning and her line just gets better and better which gives me such a great feeling inside — observing the creative process of others is food to me and no doubt to you too or else you wouldn’t be reading a design blog like decor8!

Onszelf

Onszelf (Ourselves) is a lifestyle brand founded by Astrid Nieuwenburg and Claudia Drübe, two Dutch designers who grew up in Amsterdam. I first heard about them when I was visiting Charlotte who founded the Danish company RICE – she gave me a personal tour of her company and showroom when I was recently in Denmark and a sneak peek of their outlet sale – which was amazing (I found the cutest crochet vest!). Charlotte had Onszelf wallpaper in her building and immediately I asked her where she got it because it was so unique and looked as though it had been illustrated by hand. It was from Onszelf.

Onszelf

About Onszel, Astrid attended the Amsterdam fashion academy Vogue and then she became an interior stylist and her last position before launching Onszelf was when she worked with Eijffinger, a renowned wallpaper and fabrics supplier.

Onszelf

Claudia completed her training at the College for Wood and Furniture in Rotterdam. After a short career as a window dresser at Bijenkorf (large department stores) she also started working at Eijffinger. Then they left to form their own company three years ago creating mostly wallpaper and linens for the kitchen.

If you live outside of the Netherlands you can order the wallpaper directly via Janoli Design Store or by sending an e-mail to info AT janolidesigns.nl. They are the official exporter of the brand Onszelf.

Thank you so much Charlotte for telling me about these talented ladies!

Spoonflower

One cool thing about hanging out online for awhile is that you notice the ideas that stick and also those that don’t. While I’m always sad to see a business go, the excitement of watching one grow and blossom is quite satisfying and keeps me energized by the web over and over again. One company that I blogged about when they first launched in beta version back in 2008 is Spoonflower and it’s been quite a pleasure to watch them blossom because I think their idea is the best!

Spoonflower

Spoonflower gives creative types the power to design, print and sell their own fabric designs through their website and to purchase the work of others. They have some great independent designers and though most of their fabrics lean more towards the sweet side, you still have many great ones to browse, be inspired by and to purchase for your next crafting or decorating project. Above are just a few of my picks, no doubt you will find your own favorites at Spoonflower too. Have fun!

Parasol Co. – New Fabric!

Parasol Co. just announced that they have created four new fabrics in mushroom, nesting doll and ikat dots (the navy/white is my favorite) in case you are looking for something to freshen your chairs or to transform into a table runner.

Parasol Co.

In addition to fabric, Parasol Co. designs patterned paper goods and limited run digital publications which promote the work of both emerging and established creatives. You may really love their website (nudge, nudge) – it’s so perky and inspirational.

Parasol Co.

Parasol Co. also has digital patterns in their shop that you can also purchase and use for online scrapbooking or even to enhance your blog photos to use as borders and such.

Go color, go!
