Makelike: Cactus Love

How about a little more love for the Pacific Northwest today?! Makelike is a graphic design studio specializing in print, illustration, collateral, pattern and surface design. Oh, and a love for creating homewares! They are currently obsessed with cactus (and soon to turn their attention to a new collection focused on national forests) so they have created a collection of pillowcases, wallpaper, posters and tea towels to celebrate their spiky desert dwelling friends.

“The linen tea-towels are 100% European linen and the pillowcases are 100% cotton; both are hand-screened using water-based inks. The limited-edition posters (edition of 50 per colorway) are hand-screened with water-based ink on archival (pH neutral/acid-free) 100% cotton rag paper. There are ?ve colorways of wallpaper: two in Succulent and three in Pointy.”

A big thank you to Liz Calderón for writing in and sharing makelike with decor8!

Onszelf

Onszelf (Ourselves) is a lifestyle brand founded by Astrid Nieuwenburg and Claudia Drübe, two Dutch designers who grew up in Amsterdam. I first heard about them when I was visiting Charlotte who founded the Danish company RICE – she gave me a personal tour of her company and showroom when I was recently in Denmark and a sneak peek of their outlet sale – which was amazing (I found the cutest crochet vest!). Charlotte had Onszelf wallpaper in her building and immediately I asked her where she got it because it was so unique and looked as though it had been illustrated by hand. It was from Onszelf.

Onszelf

About Onszel, Astrid attended the Amsterdam fashion academy Vogue and then she became an interior stylist and her last position before launching Onszelf was when she worked with Eijffinger, a renowned wallpaper and fabrics supplier.

Onszelf

Claudia completed her training at the College for Wood and Furniture in Rotterdam. After a short career as a window dresser at Bijenkorf (large department stores) she also started working at Eijffinger. Then they left to form their own company three years ago creating mostly wallpaper and linens for the kitchen.

If you live outside of the Netherlands you can order the wallpaper directly via Janoli Design Store or by sending an e-mail to info AT janolidesigns.nl. They are the official exporter of the brand Onszelf.

Thank you so much Charlotte for telling me about these talented ladies!

Fine Little Day Wallpaper

Ahoy and shiver me timbers! The idea of having sketchy ships on the wall really puts the wind in my sail. Is this wallpaper, designed by Fine Little Day, not divine?

Fine Little Day

Fine Little Day

I really like Elisabeth’s vision when she styled this shot above, it’s interesting to see how SHE imagines it in a room, what sort of space it would fit in…

You can order it here if you’d like. Arrr!

Graham & Brown: New Wallpaper!

Graham & Brown sent over some of their exciting new collections which launched at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York last month. Graham & Brown unveiled new designs from renowned designers Kelly Hoppen (UK) and Amy Butler (US). Kelly Hoppen is a world renowned designer who has pioneered a simple, yet opulent style  — her blend of Eastern & Western influence is quick striking. Then there is Amy Butler who is known for her midwest modern style with spirit and color. She combines fresh prints that really look great as papers on the wall as you can see below. Yum!

You can view more of Kelly’s wallcoverings here and you may see the full range from Amy Butler here.

Out of the patterns shown above, which do you like the best and where can you see it in your home? I like Lacework (reminds me of doilies and you know I have a think for those!), Momento, Passion Lily and Temple Tulips. They have different colorways of each of the patterns shown above so be sure to check out the website to view them all. I would also like to have several of these papers to line drawers, cabinets or to use to create a patchwork design on the wall or door – so pretty!

Turner Pocock Wallpaper

Turner Pocock is an interior design firm in London that also happens to have a sophisticated and slightly whimsical collection of wallcoverings divided into two themes – sporting goods with papers that have a cricket and a tennis (perfect timing!) theme, and an animal line collection with several furry friends from polar bears to zebras. My favorite is the Ostrich paper shown below in pink. Love!

Turner Pocock Wallpaper

Priced at £70.50 RRP, you can purchase some of these fun prints for your home from the Turner Pocock website if you’d like. Here is a sampling to whet your appetite.

These papers are inspired by the illustrative work of aritst Catherine Cazalet who recently joined forces with Bunny Turner and Emma Pocock, the founders of the firm. Thank you Sally for these images and for introducing me to Turner Pocock!
