Paintings by Elizabeth Schuppe

Ah. A breathe of fresh air. Paintings by Elizabeth Schuppe. Her use of color evokes feelings of serenity and joy. You may have spotted her painting above on page 275 in the March issue of Glamour magazine (USA). Stunning.

With a degree in studio art from Skidmore College, and with her art featured in glamour magazine and currently on display at Tao Living in the west village (nyc), this is an artist worth looking at.

Talented Elizabeth has a keen eye for color and design. She started working as a graphic designer (to pay the bills!), which left her with little time to paint, which is her greatest love. She knew this had to change, so she leapt into painting full time and never looked back. Influenced by the abstract expressionists of the 1950s, she uses the elements of painting itself ? color, line, shape, texture, and light ? to express emotions rather than including recognizable objects. There is no plan in her painting, yet there is definite process. She lets a color or line dictate what comes next.

Visit Elizabeth online or, if you’re in the NY area, view her works on display at Tao living. Thanks, Elizabeth, for writing in and for sharing your works with decor8!

Elizabeth Schuppe. She’s going places. Hopefully, on that empty wall in your living room.

Clio Home + Goodbye until Monday!

Clio Home is such a darling online destination for unique home accessories, and because it’s the weekend and I need to dash out to meet some friends, here are a few final visual treats to leave you with until I’m back on Monday with more goodies…

I’ve had so many of you writing in to ask whether I attended the NY Gift Show. I even had one of the guys at design public (thanks, guys!) ask me to cover the entire show on their website. Wow. So honored.

But….I didn’t attend the gift show! I was going to head down with my friend, but unforseen events transpired before we were due to leave so we decided to stick around here. Given that I feel ADD whenever I’m in Target, I doubt I would have survived the gift show with hundreds of shiny things spread over half a million square feet of trade show space. Warning! Self imploding in 5 seconds…sensory overload…beep beep beep.

In the next week, I’ll be highlighting two artists that really strike my fancy lately, along with an art show I attended in the south end a few days ago, and plenty of fresh finds that you guys have been writing in asking me to feature. No problem! That’s my purpose in life outside of world peace, so keep the emails comin’! :)

I’m also eagerly awaiting the return of my midwest sorta-blogger-mate, Brent. He’s in Chicago and hopefully, he’ll come back with a few morsels of fresh baked finds from the windy city. He’s a total design freak with exquisite taste, so I’m wondering what he’ll unearth out there.

world peace + good design,

holly

hay vases, hey, hey, hey! $39-110

birdie vase, $125…love him….this sparkles with cuteness!

2 Jane

The March issue of Glamour magazine just arrived, and I spotted this really lacy vinyl adhesive that you can actually peel and stick to your wall – not just windows – and it’s in bright blue! It’s so nice. You have to grab the March issue and turn to page 288. It’s displayed behind the white sofa. Love it!

You can find the lacy adhesive stuff shown above at 2 Jane, along with the fun pixel pattern show below. The other 3 photos are sample shots of wallpaper they carry too. It would be nice to wallpaper one wall in your entryway or a wall behind your dining room table, just to give the room a focal point and add some pattern without going overboard.

I love all these new options in wall treatments – finally, the days of boring pottery barn painted walls – fading quickly! Americans are getting fresh and funky with vibrant patterns and colors for the home. It’s fun to see primary colors, like blues and reds, surfacing again, too. Happy colors for a happy home. Love love love it!
