DaWanda Pinboard: Home Decor Faves

DaWanda featured a Fall Home Decor pinboard that I recently pulled together on their main page today. You may really like the 3 pages of goodies I’ve pinned, who knows maybe you can pull together a pinboard yourself and share the link with me in the comments section below? I’m ALWAYS looking to find more great indie design out there.

Thanks, Domino!

I just found out over the weekend that decor8 was mentioned in the November 2008 issue of Domino magazine on page 40! Thanks, Domino!

What an honor to be highlighted as a “So Right Now” blog alongside many others, they did a nice job matching blogs by group and what a great moment to have the #1 shelter magazine in America highlight blogs as being a go-to source for inspiration and decorating tips and ideas. Fantastic. It’s what I’ve been hoping to see since early 2006 when I pitched a similar article idea to some of the big shelter mags and their editors turned me down flat. One even told me that, “blogs are written by inexperienced housewives who have no say in the design world”. Another told me, “blogs won’t stick” (this was in ’06), and finally I heard “blogs are of no interest to *this* magazine {click}” (funny because that magazine now has a blog two years later).

I can’t tell you how many times I cried after talking on the phone to such editors. Tears of frustration mixed mostly with anger. I didn’t feel deflated, I felt empowered… “We bloggers will SHOW THEM” was how I viewed every single snub I faced. And I was snubbed by many, trust me. “decor8 who?”, “You author a design blAg, oh um blOg, get to the point I have to take a call…”, “What is a blog, is that MySpace?”… But I had faith that the “little guy” and our voices would someday matter to the big guys. To say that I am excited to see Domino write about blogs is an understatement. I am OVER.THE.MOON. They have been supportive of blogging since day one, same goes for Elle Decor, never once did they snub blogs or make us feel unloved. They are smart, they see the value in both blog and magazine living together. Their mention of blogs as “So Right Now” is a tremendous vote not only for those mentioned (like me) but to many bloggers not mentioned since this will no doubt draw non-blog readers into the circle to see what ‘this blogging thing is all about’ and they’ll eventually find others by linking around.

Of course the magazine could not include all of the equally important and inspirational decorating/craft/design blogs out there (they number into the thousands)… So if you’re new to decor8 please know that the design blog community is made up of many great blogs which is why I have a visual blogroll — so readers can use that as a portal to finding the greatness that truly exists out there. Click here to be introduced to more great blogs.

And so more Domino readers who stop by can find YOU, please leave a comment here with a direct link to YOUR blog – shameless plugs welcome! The goal is to list as many blogs here as possible so that you can be part of this feature alongside of the blogs featured in the article. United we stand!

Thank you Domino, so much for recognizing us!

Toast {and Happy Weekend!}

My copy of the winter Toast catalog arrived today from England, I held it close to my nose and enjoyed the smell of it… sounds odd but I *love* new paper smell. It’s that thick heavyweight paper from Britain, vegetable-based inks, it has a very distinct odor. Have you ever picked up a copy of Selvedge magazine? It’s the same smell, the same chunky matte pages, it’s absolute heaven. Do you also appreciate paper a little too much?

It came at the perfect time too as I just returned home from a full day at a home/decorating/foodie fair (much sensory overload!). And then I attended a very nice wine tasting… so all I wanted was to come home to relax with hot Moroccan mint tea, my Candied Fruit candle from L’Occitane, good music, blog a little, and look at my Toast catalog.

I’m sitting here typing away on my laptop in my glowing apartment with Keane in background (Perfect Symmetry, I cannot stop listening to Love is the End & Spiralling (video here, is it all over the radio in America as it is here?). As I’m writing to you I see my copy of Toast waiting nearby to be enjoyed once I’ve finished wishing you a very happy weekend. I flipped through it quickly and adore everything inside, products look so cosy… Just the way I want to feel right now. I must share with you some images from it.

Wishing you all a toasty weekend, I hope you enjoy every drop of your time and that you do something to show yourself that you cherish who you are this weekend. A bubble bath, a bouquet of flowers, lunch with your best friend, collecting chestnuts in the park… enjoy life and the simple pleasures…

On my reading list this weekend:

- Toast (looking, not reading)
- Meine Sommernachtstr?ume
- home sweet home: So will ich wohnen!
- New Moon (hopefully finish a few more chapters).

Watching list:

- Liebe um jeden Preis (in French with Amelie’s own Audrey Tatou watch the trailer here)
- Kein Ohr Hasen (German with English subtitles or else I’d be lost!)
- Justin Timberlake Live at Madison Square Garden (I like his music, I just picked it up on Amazon and cannot wait to watch it with my girlfriends!)

Doing list:

- paint 4 dining room chairs white
- reupholster them with new striped fabric
- go to the flea market
- have dinner with friends on Saturday
- play with my friends baby
- walk in the forest on Sunday
- candlelight bath with Sabon bath ball, Blonde Redhead, and John Mayer on Sunday night
- a glass of port
- maybe two.

What’s on YOUR list? Write it here today and come back on Monday morning to this same post to report it on what you ACTUALLY did do. Yes, I’m holding you accountable. Together we can do great things, I believe in group support (and therapy he he) so by all means, use this as your space to commit to something you want to do this weekend! I’ll do the same, deal?

Psst: You can view more cozy images from the Toast catalog here.
