PBteen: Marlin - Hit or Diss?

Joy reminds us that when it comes to decorating, sometimes we need to go to the little people -- the kids! She pointed out some of her PBteen Spring finds, so I linked over to their site and stumbled upon this mighty marlin. I can just hear the animal rights activist's now. But it's completely faux, so no worries. I simply want to know, would you add the catch 'o the day to your adult space, or tuck him in with the kids (he is also available as a she, in pink). Hot or not? Should we throw him back in?

When I spotted this thing, I had flashbacks of That 70's Show, but for some reason, my thoughts weren't entirely negative because I felt as though I'd viewed our finned friend in a very chic living space before. Then it came to me -- I have an image tucked away in one of my inspiration books. Domino. Jan/Feb '06 issue. Got it! Although homeowners Genifer Goodman and Benjamin Sohr sport a sailfish (you can own a fishy fiberglass replica just like it for $699), this kitschy $79 Marlin may work for you.

But wait! I know I spotted this living room elsewhere shot at a different angle. Ah, yes... Meg blogged about it over on Designer's Library, she found it in BH+G magazine, May '06. This image is from Ms. Meg, looks like she took a moment to scan it for a full view (Nice job, Meg!).

What do you think of old Mr. Marlin now? Fin or foe? Are you seeing this as the big catch or do you feel opposed to seafood on the wall (or if shown on the wall, is it Seefood)? :)

Here's some more goodies from PBteen that may work for you if the fish doesn't. Love the silver, pink, and blue vintage-style fans and these bubble glass lights, too. I double checked the measurements of the etagere (shown below) and it's proper height for an adult space at 69" h (I thought it may be kiddie size, but it's not).

You can't deny the appeal of these $15 (on sale) task lights. Aren't these cute? I'd love one on a teak credenza. I think it would look so cute on a wood surface in a mid-century style space.
