Can you believe it’s October 1st and the beginning of Autumn? Today it truly arrived and to celebrate, we went out to this tiny spot for lunch that we enjoy and had the most delicious homemade chicken soup with crusty bread. And then we went for coffee and cake, a ritual here daily around 4:00 p.m. when cafes are packed. Afterwards, it was time to hit the farmers’ market where we went flower shopping and bought a ton of fresh veggies from the farmers in our region as I plan to make two kinds of soup: chicken coconut and vegetable rice. I also found the best caramel-colored leather boots that I adore – those I found last night and they are gorgeous, like something out of the 70s and will keep my legs warm. Autumn is lovely, isn’t it?
So tell me, what traditions do you follow in the Fall? Where do you like to go? What do you enjoy doing at home with your family? Do you have favorite outdoor activities that you like to engage in? For me, Autumn is all about long walks in the forest, attending festivals outdoors, travel, collecting chestnuts and acorns, and wearing layers of clothes and cute hats. It’s also about cooking soups and baking. :) I was sitting on the sofa this morning thinking about the changing of the seasons, what I’ll do to “warm” up my decor for the next few months, and looked on my coffee table and thought I’d capture the moment with the photo above. It really captures the season to me. The colors, the crochet, the book, the warm wood…
Ah, Autumn… I love you, my favorite season, my cozy friend who returns loyally each and every year.

It really is the best season, isn’t it? Makes me think of sharpened pencils, cozy scarves and steaming bowls of soup… I’m always at my most creative in the Fall, too!
Next weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving and for the first time in years I’m going home for it. I can’t wait because my hometown is beautiful at this time of year, all the hills ablaze with colour and leaves everywhere you look. I’ll see family, take lots of walks and eat lots of yummy stuff. (Though hopefully not too much, as I’ve got a wedding to go to the next weekend, and I need to fit into my dress! :)

lovely! I’m stitching up a little something, hitting replay on The Bird and the Bee’s ‘My Love’, and watching leaves fall onto my balcony. Our neighbors just delivered a few slices of Pflaumenkuchen (plum cake), a traditional German fall cake. We’ll have it for dessert later tonight. Tomorrow I start teaching a class – very fall-feeling! I’ll have to set out a little back-to-school outfit tonight! =)

Celebrating love, the colors of earth, the warmth of hot drinks, hot soups, and warm breads; the return of the quiet.

You are so right with your fall feelings. Fall is also my favorite season and I love long walks at the crisp air and getting cozy at home with a cup of hot apple cider. Let’s celebrate this wonderful season!

For me, autumn is about cooking soups and roasted vegetables! Buying new colorful tights and socks. And wearing scarves!
Also, I usually plan a million new projects- autumn turns into very long winter here in Minneapolis, so I like to have things to look forward to working on!
beautiful flowers!

This time of the year is usually Spring for me in Australia, but this year I’m in France so I’m experiencing it get colder as the year draws to a close. I’m going to read books in bed on the weekends, experiment with soup and get completely excited about a Christmas in the snow!

I love all the cozy ideas listed! I like to cook soups (and freeze some for lazy winter evenings when all I have to do is reheat it); spend a lot of time outside; we usually go to a pumpkin festival to pick out our pumpkins; we visit a farm for their fall festival and take a hayride and stroll through the corn maze; hike in the hills as the leaves change and the humidity disappears; and eat more squash than I think I can hold.
I agree strongly with Ele above regarding the boost in creativity. Right now I’m knitting two fall vests for my kids, taking lots of pictures, saving lots of fall recipes, buying fabric for a new quilt I want to make, and checking more books out of the library than I can possibly read in a reasonable timespan. I always feel a sense of exhaling after the heat of the summer passes as well as determination and motivation (a holdover from decades of starting school in the fall?) with my planned projects.

I’m still sort of mourning the end of the summer, succumbing to the fact that I can no longer wear sandals, but I’m trying to think of some great fall things to cheer me up! I’ve started a new knitting project (it’s been a year since I’ve knit anything!), and I’m looking forward to making chilis and pumpkin-related baked goods, buying some warm-ish tights to wear with fall skirts, drinking hot cider, and going to a pumpkin patch to pick one out for my front doorstep! Ooh, as Heather commented above, definitely a trip north (maybe NH?) to see the foliage soon. I guess there are some things to be excited about. ;)

Autumn is the best season. It’s just so beautiful with the leaves changing colours and the chill in the air-actually we have it quite cool here today-13C.
At this time of year I like to change the paintings around on my walls and display warmer tones. I change up throw blankets and pillows and put out some “fall” scented candles. I also enjoy baking more and have even made 2 plum tarts already. Date squares and pumpkin muffins are nest on my list.

For my mum and I, Fall is all about baking! We do go on hikes to enjoy the scenery, but there’s no better time to start making baking powder biscuits. :)

Since we live in Singapore (which unfortunately has no seasons except for raining season) I really miss the German fall season. Although it can be pretty cold and rainy sometimes, I am absolutely delighted by the colors of nature, the smell of damp leaves, the cosiness of a fireplace, drinking hot tea and chilling on the sofa with a warm blanket and a good book and any kind of crafts! This is the time of Halloween and Pumpkins, thinking about Christmas presents for the first time and collecting all sorts of seeds and fruits you can find outside for decoration or crafts. And last but not least fashion…. I looove sweaters, shawls, boots, corduroy, capelets, … Sigh! :-)
